ABOUT THE CANDIDATE
Dr. Matt Wiley is a tenured Associate Professor of Mathematics and Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Learning Technologies at Victoria College. Bridging classroom pedagogy, student advocacy, and institutional strategy, Matt aligns comprehensive planning and information intelligence across Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM), spanning dual enrollment pipelines, recruitment, and retention. He integrates this work with Talent Strong Texas Pathways, the Aspen Transfer Initiative, and the Unlocking Opportunity framework to connect student completion directly to university transfer and family-sustaining careers. Leading college-wide unit planning and supporting Council for the Advancement of Standards (CAS) evaluations and student journey mapping, he partners with Student Services directors and staff to foster a culture of care where every learner is known, valued, supported, and empowered.
A champion of shared governance and student-centered operations, Matt previously chaired the Curriculum and Instructional Council, served as a Faculty Senator, and directed the college’s active learning QEP, which redesigned new student onboarding. Having taught over 2,000 students, he ranked in the 90th percentile for teaching effectiveness and earned awards for teaching in California and student club advising in Texas. He also serves on the Texas A&M University at Kingsville Institutional Review Board, ensuring ethical compliance and participant protection.
Matt holds an Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration, an MBA, an M.S. in Pure Mathematics, and a B.S. in Mathematics with a Minor in Computer Science. His scholarship focuses on maximizing student access under Texas House Bill 8 funding models, optimizing workforce and transfer pathways, and accelerating early academic momentum for part-time community college students. Co-author of three books on R programming, Matt translates predictive analytics into prescriptive student advocacy, collaborating with regional stakeholders to align college services and programs with upward economic mobility.
