Description
The public is invited to join VC's Museum of the Coastal Bend for a John W. Stormont Lecture, Wrangling Pelicans: Military Life in Texas Presidios
Discover the surprising complexities of Spanish colonial existence with Dr. Timothy Seiter, Assistant Professor of History at the University of Texas at Tyler. A specialist in colonial Texas with an emphasis on Spanish and Native histories, Dr. Seiter presents a richly detailed history of daily life for Spanish soldiers and presidio women at 18th-century Presidio La Bahia. Wrangling Pelicans recreates the complexities of life at the Spanish empire’s edge, where survival mattered more than royal decrees. A book-signing immediately follows the lecture. Books available for purchase in the museum store.
Lectures are free admission and open to the public
