Description
The public is invited to join VC's Museum of the Coastal Bend for a John W. Stormont Lecture, The Rise of LULAC and the Mexican American Civil Rights Movement in Victoria, Cuero, and Wharton County, 1929-2026.
Join award-winning author and historian, Dr. Cynthia E. Orozco (Professor Emeritus in History & Humanities, Eastern New Mexico University, Ruidoso), as she reexamines conventional narratives surrounding the League of United Latin-American Citizens (LULAC). Dr. Orozco explores LULAC’s history and role in the Mexican American civil rights movement with particular emphasis on Texas Coastal Bend activities, and recasts LULAC at the forefront of civil rights movements in America. Orozco is the National LULAC Historian. A book-signing immediately follows the lecture. Books available for purchase in the museum store.
Lectures are free admission and open to the public.
